What is mental health?
It doesn’t matter if you weigh a 100 kgs or are a pro in martial arts, you could be pissed by a snide remark from a total stranger. Mental health is an issue that is important for anyone and everyone. You should not forget that it is a way of life. You choose to live it the way you want.
Mental health is the state of your mind which revolves around experiencing peace and maintaining a healthy attitude.
It is okay to not be okay. You should accept failure and not dwell upon it. Take it positively and move-on. This is a sign of good mental health. This aspect includes our emotional, social and psychological health. This is an important thing for everyone no matter what age or gender the person belongs to.
There is no fixed way to describe the mental well-being of a person. It might be a small issue for someone whereas be the biggest problem in another individual’s life.
According to the World Health Organization, mental health is “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and can make a contribution to his or her community”.

Food is of the most essential pillar in the survival of a human being. Everything that we do daily pretty much revolves around food. But some people are obsessed with it to a harmful extent.

Indulging in excessive eating or consuming very little amounts of food may be an early sign of an eating disorder. Only eating doesn’t come under the umbrella of eating disorders. Counting calories for everything that you consume and then constantly worrying about it is also a sign of this condition. Being extremely conscious about your body shape and not appreciating yourself can be very crucial to your inner peace.
2. Anxiety disorders
Occasional worrying about things is natural in a human’s life. But being worried and irritated about insignificant things in life is not a good sign for your mental health. It is a part of the sympathetic nervous system that goes into overdrive when people are agitated. Rapid breathing, dry mouth, sweating and shaky hands maybe a few of the symptoms of anxiety-related disorders.
3. Personality disorders
Personality is the uniqueness that defines an individual. It is a controversial topic since the diagnosis is not specific to a particular trait. What might be a disorder in someone might not be such a serious problem in the other? However, constantly living with such a disorder may be very difficult for the individual. Some people might find it difficult to trust anyone. They might have constant anxiousness and find it very difficult to relax. Constant fear of danger or threat runs in their mind. These could be a few symptoms that might indicate a personality disorder.
4. Post-traumatic stress disorder
This is a disorder that gets triggered due to a terrifying event in the past. You might be constantly haunted by tragic memories. Certain words, situations, or objects could remind you of the incident and trigger an extreme response. People with PTSD often tend to avoid situations, feelings and objects that remind them of the traumatic event.
It can be described as a prolonged feeling of sadness, loss, anger that interferes with an individual’s everyday life. It might affect the sleep pattern causing restless sleep, excessive sleepiness, not sleeping through the night. The person fighting depression may find himself tired, angry, or lacking energy at all times.
Tips to boost your mental health
1. Don’t hesitate to ask for help
Some might find it a too bold thing to recommend, but therapy should not be treated as a taboo. It is completely normal to talk and discuss your problems with an expert and find the current guidance. Sometimes sharing your problems and easing your stress might not be giving you clarity in your thoughts. In such scenarios, asking for help should be appreciated.
2. Keep yourself active
Lying on the bed and not facing your problems is not a solution to anything in life. Making yourself numb and not acknowledging a matter in hand, is not the correct way to deal with it. Exercise regularly in any form that you wish. Dance to your favorite songs or practice yoga in the morning, it is completely your choice. It will not only keep you motivated but also get you a good night’s sleep.
3. Manage your stress-level
Stress is a universal concept. The dosage of it may vary but everyone has to face it at some point in their life if not constantly. Therefore it might not be wise to think of an escape plan from stress. It is better if you can manage it to keep it under control.
4. Take a break
You might have been studying continuously for your next day’s exam and have a lot to cover. After a point, you don’t think you can grasp anything that you read. Stop right there and take a break.
It is important to walk away from things that stress you even if that escape is for a couple of minutes. It will give you a clear head and help you concentrate on the subject when you return to it with a fresh mind.
5. It is okay to not be perfect
Self-realization and understanding one’s worth is very important. You might not be the perfect person in your eyes but never under-evaluate yourself. Being hard on yourself and nitpicking every little detail will not help your mind to sleep well at night. Don’t compare yourself with others. You are a unique soul and that is the most special thing about yourself.

Treatment should be considered a serious option as it helps in managing the symptoms and living a better life.
